Raysa Bloom (as she is now known) is the author sixteen novels and has received many accolades for her writing, including an American Library Association award and honors from the International Literacy Association's Notable Books for Global Society. She's received starred reviews from Kirkus, PW, and Booklist as well as having her books on many state lists.
She was born in Brooklyn but spent most of her childhood in rural upstate New York. As a child, she had little interest in television or video games. What she loved most was to wander in the woods pretending she lived in another time.
Even now, looking out at the skyline of New York City, or hiking on a wooded trail that was once a farm, or walking down a street in a small town, she can't help but to imagine what it must have looked like one hundred years ago. Two hundred?
